Earlier this year Craig Carothers started playing APBA Golf. He reached out to me this past summer for a copy of the Game Caddie, which at the time was version 6.2.1. (Version 6.5 will be released shortly.) He told me about the short tournament format he uses, and I invited him to share the details and some of his results here. Craig writes:
“I have been enjoying APBA Golf and Game Caddie very much during 2024. I have not ventured into the advanced versions yet – having too much fun playing the way I do. I basically play the basic version [of the Game Caddie] while adding the ability to work-the-ball.
I only have 3 courses to play. I play tournaments of 3 rounds (1 per course). Twelve golfers play in round 1, with the top 8 going to round 2 and top 4 in the final. I started playing Metro D.C. (Congressional) first, then Second City (Medinah No. 3), then Monterrey (Cypress Point). The order in which courses are played varies by tournament.
Card sets I have include the 2023 Ryder Cup set, the old time greats, the 2023 men, the 2023 women, and the amateur set. I played as myself in one of the tournaments using my 2024 handicap from one of the leagues in which I play and the corresponding APBA card for my handicap. Very, very interesting.
Below I have included statistics for 5 of the rankings that I have tracked. I plan to add averages for par 3’s, par 4’s, and par 5’s. I find it very interesting to see how the different generations of golfers compare. Thanks to APBA for providing the game and golfer rankings. Thanks to you, Scott, for providing the automation that allows the speed of replay and the tracking of statistics.”
Many thanks to Craig for sharing! I have taken the liberty of highlighting his personal stats in red. Click (or tap) in the upper righthand corner of the PDF below to view all the player results.
[Craig notes that some stats are missing, which accounts for the different numbers of rankings across categories. Also, some players’ names may appear more than once if they played in multiple tournaments.]
